A SaaS provider needed to accelerate feature delivery ahead of a Series B raise, but its two-person engineering team had a roadmap that would have taken over a year to ship at their current pace. Hiring at that speed through their own pipeline was not realistic — sourcing, interviewing and onboarding senior engineers typically took three to four months per hire, time the fundraising timeline did not allow.
How We Thought About It
We mapped the exact skill gaps against the roadmap first — which parts needed senior full-stack engineers, where a dedicated QA function was missing, and which workstreams needed a fractional architect rather than a full-time hire. We proposed pre-vetted candidates in batches so the client's own engineering leads could interview and approve every person before they joined, rather than accepting a pod assembled without their input.
What We Built
We embedded a cross-functional pod — engineers, QA and a fractional architect — directly into the client's existing sprint cadence, tools and repositories within the first week. Every engineer was backed by periodic code review from our principal engineers, and the pod scaled from two to fifteen people over three weeks as successive batches were interviewed and approved, without the client carrying the recruiting overhead themselves.
What Changed
The client shipped their pre-Series B roadmap on the original timeline instead of the twelve-plus months their in-house hiring pace would have required. Every placement was interviewed and approved by the client's own engineering leads, and the pod continued past the fundraise as a standing extension of their team rather than winding down as a one-off engagement.
